Ruby Lee, MD

On March 8th, 2024, Hartselle & Associates lost our incredible colleague and dear friend, Dr. Ruby Lee after a valiant battle with cancer.

Dr. Lee was boarded in three specialties -General Psychiatry, Pediatric Psychiatry and Forensic Psychiatry. Born and raised in Texas, she received her MD at Texas A&M University, did her residency at University of Maryland where she served as Chief Resident and her Child, Adolescent and Forensic Fellowships at Brown University. In addition to her work with this practice, she was the Associate Training Director of the Forensic Psychiatry Program at Brown, teaching residents and fellows about the care of incarcerated youth and adults. She was an attending psychiatrist at the ACI prison and the state forensic hospital, caring for Rhode Island's most vulnerable and neglected populations. She was nationally published and lectured as one of the nation's few psychiatrists boarded in these three specialties.

However, what was most important to know about Ruby, what towered over any academic or professional accomplishment, was that she was a phenomenal mother to her eight year old son. Ruby's happiest hours were spent at home with her husband, Dr. Leo Tsay and Eddie. With alacrity, she donned Star Wars attire, threw herself into building Lego castles, endlessly rode the Hogwarts Express at Harry Potter World and lovingly taught Eddie Mandarin Chinese.

Having known Ruby for twelve years, I cannot tell you how deeply I admired her ability to balance her demanding career with being ever present as a wife and mother. I was honored that she chose to work with Hartselle & Associates. She brought with her such deep wisdom and vast compassion for patients and families.

Though she was here too briefly, she will always, always be with us.

Stephanie Hartselle, MD
